Dowdy

"A lot of people have big hair.  It is amazing to see how different those of us from California look.  Just more modern looking to my eye.  Not a doubty one of us."
dowdy = adjective (used to describe a person, typically a woman, or the clothes) = unfashionable and without style in appearance.  Example:  "Why do you always wear those dowdy old dresses?
But "doubty"?  It took me a minute to figure out she meant "dowdy," as in the clothes a person wears.  The big-hair people may not have looked stylish, but I doubt they were at all doubty.
